This Client was seeking a simple and cozy pied-à-terre for her weekly visits from Sag Harbor where she spends most of her time. This project was about creating an artful urban escape that celebrates the joy and youthfulness she felt living in 1970s New York. A mix of materiality and textures becomes this subtle backdrop of the art, sourced from close friends and old beaus, and minimal curation of furnishings, an assembly of vintage and contemporary pieces. Original oak floors were refinished and the hallway, kitchen and bath of the apartment gut renovated. The 8’ drop ceilings were opened to reveal 11’ ceilings and around the edges, a reveal trim meets the floor. The surfaces were all given a treatment of Color Atelier Bone lime wash and Farrow & Ball’s All White. The overall effect is a grounding and centering of being within the space. Upon entering, you feel a giant exhale, a wash over of calm, and a spark of quiet inspiration.
